I asked myself this question a few years ago when I was having problems getting anything done on my computer.</p> <p> </p> <p>What was happening was that when I wanted to run my word processor, listen to music, or view a video file, a little Windows error box would pop up in the middle of my screen. These boxes displayed all kinds of error messages. I never know exactly what they meant. I all knew was that they told me I couldn't do what I wanted to do.</p> <p> </p> <p>So, I started learning about how a computer works and what the PC error messages meant. It turned out that they usually meant something was wrong with my Windows registry.</p> <p>What is the Windows registry? It is a database that keeps track of all of the process files for each and every program on your computer. It directs these files to the right places so that they don't take lots of time and processor energy searching you entire computer to find where they need to connect. In other words, the registry acts as a shortcut for nearly all the programs on your computer.</p> <p> </p> <p>I found out that if I fixed my registry, I wouldn't just fix PC error problems, I'd also speed up my PC as well. Unfortunately, I started editing my registry by hand. And that's about the worst mistake you can ever make on your computer.</p> <p> </p> <p>Turns out that the registry is so delicate and meticulous, even most PC techs don't want to do it. I had a hard time sorting through the hundreds of registry entries. It often took me half an hour just to find out what one of the entries was all about. In addition, I accidentally deleted a file I shouldn't have, and had to re-install my copy of Windows!</p> <p> </p> <p>Nowadays, I keep my computer running smoothly with PC optimization software. I had to try a lot of software to know which programs are best.
